Circular Fashion

Gucci recently became the first Luxury brand to join the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, who’s mission is “to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.”

Gucci has made great strides in lowering it’s carbon footprint over the years, including the launch of its Off Grid collection which is 100% sustainable. This new partnership will help Gucci further their sustainability goals. With the foundation’s help, Gucci will increase efforts in circular fashion and regenerative agriculture.

One of the reasons I love vintage fashion so much is because it brings new life to something that has already been worn and loved. Instead of throwing it into a landfill, Gucci has been refurbishing and selling vintage pieces on it’s Gucci Vault website. Not only does this initiative give consumers a way to express themselves with one of a kind fashion, it’s also very good for the planet.

Remember when Billie Eilish wore a couture Gucci dress made entirely out of existing materials to the met gala? That’s also circular fashion. Using scrap materials that were going to be thrown away, deconstructing old samples dresses that didn’t turn out right then turning them into something beautiful is what eco fashion is all about.

Do you know it takes 713 gallons of water to make one tshirt? And 2,000 gallons to manufacture one pair of jeans. A pair of leather shoes? 2,113 gallons. This is where regenerative agriculture comes into play. Improving the water cycle, nurturing forests, and creating healthier soil are key initiatives in regenerative agriculture.
