The Bamboo Bag

Here is a photograph of Italian actress, Ilaria Occhini holding the the Bamboo Bag in 1956. I’ve included a photo of the Bamboo Bag from the Gucci Vault also. You can see how well the craftsmen have restored it to it’s original beauty.

In 1947, after the war, traditional design materials were hard to come by. This created a slight challenge for Guccio Gucci and his team, but nothing they couldn’t handle. After much thought, they decided to utilize bamboo. It’s lightweight, yet durable, and also quite abundant. This is how the bamboo bag was born. Today, the Bamboo Bag has been reinterpreted and is available in a wide range of beautiful colors, shapes, and sizes.

This craftsman is uses fire to shape the bamboo into a handle. Notice how he does this with bare hands!
