The Savoy Hotel

Did you know that the founder of Gucci, Guccio Gucci used to work at a hotel? The hotel is called the Savoy, and their clientele: 💰

The year is 1897. Guccio Gucci, a Florence native is living in London and finds work at The Savoy Hotel. Through his tenure at the Savoy he worked as a lift boy, a dishwasher, a bellhop, and a waiter.

Guccio enjoyed studying the Savoy’s wealthy guests: their behavior, their style, and of course their luggage. He was always curious about luggage.

Eventually Guccio took this knowledge and opened a luxury leather shop of his own, specializing in travel items. We know this leather shop today as the multibillion dollar brand Gucci.

To honor the brand’s past and celebrate it’s future, Alessandro Michele includes nods to the Savoy throughout his recent Aria collection.

Gucci also chose to use Alessandro Michele’s version of the Savoy as one of the 10 backgrounds for the Supergucci NFT, which you all know.
